HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 13

Commemorating the passing of Joseph M. Ballouz, public servant, Army and Air Force World War II Veteran, dentist, legislator, farmer, and cattle raiser.

Whereas, Joseph M. Ballouz was born May 2, 1913, in New Martinsville, West Virginia, the son of Alexander C. and Valentine Vanden Bussche Ballouz, and died March 25, 2001, at the age of eighty-seven at his home in New Martinsville; and
Whereas, Joseph M. Ballouz served the New Martinsville area as a dentist for 50 years; and
Whereas, Joseph served his country in the Army and Air Force during World War II as a Lt. Colonel of the 9488th Air Reserve Squadron and Flight Commander of Flight B; and
Whereas, Joseph was elected to the House of Delegates from Wetzel County in 1971 serving for 7 consecutive terms until 1984, where he was Chairman of the House Agricultural and Natural Resources Committee, a member of the Education Committee and a member of the Select Committee on Redistricting; and
Whereas, Joseph was a member of the Knights of Columbus; the Alpha Sigma Phi and the Psi Omega Fraternities; the Farm Bureau; the Pine Grove Sportsman Club; the Moose Lodge; the American Legion; the Reserve Officers Association; he was treasurer of the Wild Life Federation and an honorary member of the West Virginia Trappers Association; and
Whereas, Joseph was a man who loved the outdoors and racing his boat, the "Aching Tooth", but above all, West Virginia and his fellow human beings; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the members hereby commemorate the passing of Joseph M. Ballouz, public servant, Army and Air Force World War II Veteran, dentist, legislator, farmer, and cattle raiser; and gratefully acknowledge his unselfish dedication and devotion to his country, state, county and community; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby directed to forward three copies to Joseph's sister, Mary B. Davis, a copy of which will be given to Joseph's sister, Bernadette Poole and Joseph's brother, John W. Ballouz.
